PAN FRIED FISH WITH MOILEE GRAVY AND POTATO WITH STEAMED RICE RECIPE

Crazy about Kerala Style Gravy or curries? Then, folks, this Recipe for Fish Molee (Meen Moilee) is a classic one.
A very popular curry in Kerala cuisine..where fish is cooked in a coconut milk based gravy.
Fish Molee is popularly named after a lady who modified the fiery hot Kerala style fish curry to a little milder version to suit the palate of the Britishers.
Any kind of firmly fish or seafish can be used here. I have made it with fillet of bhetki fish.
Although, the taste of fish pieces is prominent in this curry yet, thick coconut milk and spices like Green chillies, turmeric powder, pepper powder, curry leaves give this side an extra edge.

Enjoy this gravy with a bowl of steamed rice & appam.

MOILEE CURRY:

Ingredients:

Onion- 1 slice chopped
Tomato- 1 chopped
Green chili –2-3
Ginger-1tsp (julienne cut)
Garlic-1tsp chopped
Coconut milk-250 ml thick
Mustard seeds-1-2 tsp
Curry leaves-6-7
Lemon juice-1-2tsp
Garam masala-1 tsp
Turmeric powder-1-2 tsp
Kashmiri Red chili powder-1-2tsp
Salt- to taste
Refined oil/ coconut oil- 2 tbsp

RECIPE:

Heat a kadhai with oil, add mustard seeds, curry leaves & allow to sizzle. Add all chopped onions, ginger, garlic, tomatoes & saute it by putting a pinch of salt until they turn lightly caramelized &golden.

Add coconut milk & stir it 2 mins. Then add turmeric powder, Kashmiri red chili powder, slit green chili, salt,1/2 cup water & stir it &bring to a low boil. Add garam masala powder, lower the heat & let simmer for 3 mins.

Turn off the heat &add lemon juice. Garnish it with fried curry leaves & serve with boiled basmati rice.

PAN FRIED FISH :

Ingredients:

Bhetki fillet-2
Salt- to taste
Turmeric powder-1tsp
Black pepper-2tsp
Lemon juice- 1tbsp
Refined oil/ butter- 2tbsp
Curry leaves-3-4

Recipe :

Heat a pan, with oil & temper it with curry leaves. Then add bhetki fillet & on a medium flame shallow fried it 3-4mins. ( any kind of firmly fish or sea fish can be used ).

POTATO PODIMASS :

Potato podimas is a quick and easy side dish made with mashed potatoes. It is super duper spicy flavourful , delicious food. It is served as an accompaniment with rice. It is another famous recipe of Kerala.

Ingredient:

Boiled potato- 2
Curry leaves-4-5
Mustard seeds-1tsp
Coriander powder-1tsp
Turmeric powder-1 tsp
Red chili powder-2tsp
Kashmiri red chili powder-1tsp
Onion sliced-1
Channa dal-1tsp
Fennel seed-1tsp
Methi-1tsp
Dried red chili-1
Salt- to taste
Sugar-1tsp
Refined oil/ coconut oil- 1tbsp
Butter-2tsp
Grated coconut -1tbsp (optional)

Recipe:

Boiled the potatoes &peel off the skin. Heat a kadhai with oil & temper it with mustard seeds, channa dal, fennel seeds, methi, dried red chili, curry leaves. Then add onion, a pinch of salt & saute it till it turns caramelized &slightly golden brown.
Add boiled potato, mash it & give a nice mix. Then add coriander, red chili, turmeric powder, salt, sugar, butter &stir it 2-3 min.
Serve it with grated coconut.
